Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Titans Rally Falls Short at CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team dropped a close game on Saturday after falling 73-68 at the Fowler Events Center.

After trailing by 13 points at the end of the third quarter, the Titans (4-4) got the game within a possession in the late minutes of the fourth quarter but couldn't complete the comeback against the undefeated CBU Lancers (9-0).

Gabi Vidmar led the Titans with a new career high 29 points after dragging the Titans back into the game with 21 points in the second half. The Titans shot 39% from the field and 86% from the free throw line (19-22).  Vidmar was the only Titan in double figures while the Lancers had four different players with double digits in scoring.

After going down early in the first quarter, the Titans led after the first period of play.  Brielle Minor found Ruby MacDonald for a buzzer beater fast break to give the Titans a 15-13 lead after one.

In the second quarter, the Lancers took the lead after outscoring the Titans 28-to-14 in the period after shooting 47.6% with 5 threes in the period. The Lancers led by 12, 41-to-29 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Lancers stretched their lead to 13 points.  After an Allysan Tse jumper to bring the Titans within 10 points to start the quarter, the Lancers stretched their lead up to 16 points.  The Titans were able to grab a little momentum heading into the final period after Vidmar scored four points in the final minute.

In the fourth quarter, the Titans outscored the Lancers 19-to-11 for the period.  Gabi Vidmar set the tone early with her first of three, three pointers in the quarter to get the Titans within 10.

The Titans slowly began chipping at the lead after baskets by Levingston, MacDonald, and back-to-back threes from Vidmar got the Titans within two points with 3:58 left in the period.

However, CBU responded with a 3-pointer of their own and the Titans weren't able to get closer within 3-points again the rest of the way.

The Titans will play their second game in six days when they take on No. 6 USC on Monday.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM at the Galen Center.
