Titans Defeat Spartans At Home

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team defeated San Jose State 71-64 at home on Wednesday night at Titan Gym.

The Titans (3-3) took a lead on a 3-point shot from Kathryn Neff thirty-three seconds into the game and never looked back the rest of the game.

The Titans offense scored a season high 71 points as they shot an efficient 47.1 % from the floor.  The offense was spread around as Hope Hassmann led the team with 17 points along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.  Ashlee Lewis had 10 points and 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.  Emily Strachan had a big 10 points off the bench.

The Titans came out hot in the first quarter after drilling four threes from Kathryn Neff, Gabi Vidmar (2) and Hope Hassmann to take a 15-8 lead in the first quarter.

The Titans finished the quarter up 21-12 after layups by Demonnie Lagway, Aixchel Hernandez, and Emily Strachan.

The Titans stretched their lead to 16 points in the second quarter after a Ruby Macdonald three-pointer with 2:06 left.  The Titans took a commanding 35-20 lead into the halftime break.

San Jose State outscored the Titans by seven points in the third quarter to close the gap a little.   Heading into the final period, the Titans led 52-44.

In the 4th quarter, the Spartans got within five points at 61-56 with 3:20 left to go in the game.  However, Lagway, Hassmann, and Strachan were able to make their free throws down the stretch to never let the Spartans get closer than five points.
