Titans Falter Late Against Georgetown

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball lost in their home opener against Georgetown 65-55 on Sunday afternoon at Titan Gym.

The Titans (2-3) led by two going into the fourth quarter, but the Hoyas (5-1) outscored the Titans 24-to-12 in the final period to grab the win over the Titans.

The Titans offense was spread around for the game as Hope Hassmann led the team with 11 points and 3 rebounds and 3 assists.  Demonnie Lagway had 10 points on 4-5 shooting.  Gabi Vidmar had 9 points and 8 rebounds and Ashlee Lewis had 8 points and 7 rebounds.  Georgetown was led by Kelsey Ransom who had 20 points.

The Titans had one of their better shooting games after shooting 46.9 % from the floor to the Hoyas 37.7%.  However, Georgetown killed the Titans on offensive boards with 15 of them and by forcing 21 Titans turnovers.

It was a very close game for the first three quarters of the game.  Georgetown jumped to a 17-11 lead in the first quarter but the Titans were able to bring it within two to end the period to make it 17-15 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, neither side found their offensive rhythm until later in the period.  The Titans kept it close and stayed within at least 4 points throughout the period and finished the 1st half only down by one after Hope Hassmann made a jumper after getting fouled and a free throw.

The Titans came out strong in the third quarter and regained the lead multiple times through the period after outscoring the Hoyas 20-to-17 for the quarter.

The Titans held a 43-41 advantage heading into the final period of play. However, Georgetown outscored the Titans by double in the fourth period aided by the Titans picking up their fifth foul of the quarter with 6:58 left to play.  The Titans sent the Hoyas to the freethrow line multiple times for the period where the Hoyas were 11-for-12.  The Titans also turned the ball over six times for the period.

The Titans will remain at home where they will take on San Jose Sate on Wednesday, November 29th.  Tip-off is set for 7 pm.
