SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton men's cross country recorded its highest NCAA Regional finish in program history, placing 10th, while the women finished 16th at the NCAA West Regionals Friday morning.
The Titans' men's squad bested its 11th place finish in 2021 with a total of 352 points Friday. Fullerton was the second best finishing team from The Big West, placing behind Cal Poly which finished eighth.
Alexis Garcia led the Titans in the men's 10k with a 38th individual placement, running a personal-best time of 30:03.0. Talman Young followed with a personal-best 30:33.1 to place 61st, while Jeremiah Castellano also ran a personal-best 30:50.2 to finish 73rd. Justin Singer finished 78th with a PR of 30:59.8.
Tony Chavez clocked a time of 31:23.8, placing 106th, while JT McCoy ran a personal-best 31:33.6 to take 115th. Nathaniel Avila rounded out the Titans' men's competitors with a time of 31:59.2 to place 135th.
The Fullerton women's squad finished 16th overall, its highest placement since taking 10th in 2021. The Titans totaled 486 points, finishing as the third best team from The Big West behind Cal Poly (8th) and UC Riverside (11th).
Mia Bergman paced Fullerton in the women's 6k with a 42nd place finish, clocking a time of 20:33.5. Jicel Fernandez ran a personal-best 20:44.8 to finish 66th while Olivia Ruiz clocked a 21:14.6 to place 108th.
Bella Smith posted a new PR of 21:44.4, finishing 136th, and Ashlynn Viramontes followed right behind with a 21:44.5 to take 137th. Destiny Lopez ran a 21:59.6 Friday to earn 152nd place and Misty Diaz took 155th with a 22:01.6, concluding the Titans' competitors.
