Ranson, Whillock Named Big West Player of the Week

BIG WEST RELEASE

IRVINE, Calif. - It was announced on Monday that Mia Ranson and Aspen Whillock were named the Big West Player of the Week for women's soccer. Ranson was named the Defensive Player of the Week while Aspen Whillock was named the Freshman Player of the Week. 

Mia Ranson was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fifth player of the week honor in her career.  Ranson played a major part in the Titan's two wins this week over UC Irvine and UC San Diego.  She kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over UC Irvine and 1-0 win over UC San Diego.  She made seven saves against UCI including a game saving stop on a 1-v-1 opportuntiy near the end of the game.
 

She also made five saves against UC San Diego on Sunday.  Ranson leads the Big West with 77 saves, 5 shutouts, and a .819 save percentage.

Aspen Whillock was named the Big West Freshman Player of the Week after her first career goal on Sunday at UC San Diego.  Making just her 4th appearance all season, Whillock latched onto a cross by Laurie Ann Moise and volleyed the ball into the back of the net as the Titans held on to the 1-0 win over the Tritons.  
 

The Titans are on top of the Big West women's soccer table with 12 points and will take on UC Davis on Sunday, October 15th.  Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
