FULLERTON, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball was swept (18-25, 10–25, 14-25) at Hawaii Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The result moves the Titans to 1-14 on the season and 0-6 in Big West play.
Laura Williams paced Fullerton offensively with seven kills to go with three digs. Ameena Campbell added five kills while Aubrey Beaver had four kills and six digs. Nadia Koanui anchored the Titans on defense with a match-high 13 digs to go with three assists and a kill.
Hawaii jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the match, before a Campbell kill and a Fasavalu-Campbell stuff highlighted a 3-0 Titan run. Fullerton battled throughout the set, with a Williams kill capping another 3-0 run and bringing the score to 21-15 for Hawaii. But the Rainbow Wahine went on to take set one, 25-18.
A Beaver kill kept the Titans in set two early, with the team trailing 7-5. But Hawaii scored the next six to go up 13-5. Williams and Martinez tallied kills and Garis and Martinez shared a block later in the set, but the Rainbow Wahine went on to win set two, 25-10.
Fullerton led early in the third set, with back-to-back kills from Campbell putting the Titans up 4-3. Hawaii then scored the next six to go up 9-4. Campbell later recorded another kill after an impressive defensive effort from Nadia Koanui, who recorded multiple digs on the play. But Hawaii went on to win the set, 25-14, to complete the sweep.
The Titans return home next weekend for a pair of matches at Titan Gym, first taking on CSUN on Friday, Oct. 13. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. PT.
