FULLERTON, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball was swept (25-22, 25-21, 25-15) by CSU Bakersfield Saturday at Titan Gym. With the loss the Titans' overall record moves to 1-16 and 0-8 in the conference.
Aubrey Beaver was efficient offensively, producing a .357 clip with a team-high 11 kills and eight digs. Following her was Ameena Campbell who contributed eight kills and eight digs. Defensively, Ashley Chacon led the team with 11 digs. Nadia Koanui, Campbell and Beaver each had eight digs.
The first set began with CSU Bakersfield earning an early 7-4 lead. A 4-0 run allowed the Roadrunners to extend their lead, 11-4, for which the Titans spent the rest of the set trying to close. Kills by Campbell and Beaver set off a late 5-0 run, allowing the Titans to cut their deficit to 18-15, but ultimately the deficit was too large. The roadrunners closed out the first set, 25-22.
The two teams opened the second set trading points and found themselves tied 10-10. The Roadrunners attempted to pull away with back-to-back points, but the Titans responded with four of their own following kills from Martinez and Campbell to retake the lead, 14-12.
The two teams continued to go back-and-forth, finding themselves tied 20-20 late in the set. But the Roadrunners put together a late 5-1 run to earn the set win, 25-21.
The third set started with the Roadrunners attempting to run away early, but kills from Martinez and Campbell brought the score to 12-11 for CSU Bakersfield. The Roadrunners extended their lead, putting together a 4-0 run to go up 16-11. From this point forward the Titans were unable to close the scoring gap, losing the final set, 25-15.
