Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton's Matt Sanders re-directed a cross from Michael Farfan into the goal in the 25th minute to offset an early score by Cal State Northridge's Sunghyun Kim as the Titans and Matadors battled to a 1-1 tie in Big West Conference men's soccer action Wednesday night.

The Titans emerged with a 4-4-1 overall record and an 0-1-1 mark in the Big West while the Matadors are now 4-2-2 after the tie in their Big West opener.

Fullerton played the final 33 minutes a man down after German Moreno was issued his second yellow card of the match and was ejected.

Kim scored 2:02 into the match with a one-timer from about 20 yards on a touch from Robert Pate.

The Titans were the aggressor much of the first half, outshooting the visitors 8-2 and getting 5 corner kicks to none for the Matadors.

Fullerton's score came at 24:34 when Sanders ran over a ball in front of the net off a free-kick cross from the left wing by Farfan to beat goalkeeper Kevin Guppy, who would finish the night with 7 saves.

Fullerton's Tyler Andrews totaled 3 saves.

Fullerton had a series of excellent scoring chances midway through the second half. Two Titans knocked each other down in the 52nd minute just outside the net going for a favorable deflection. Gabriel Farfan shot just wide of the post in the 54th minute and Shay Spitz hit a post 10 minutes later. Peter Kingman was denied from short range by Guppy five minutes later.

After Moreno got his second yellow card, the Matadors had a couple of late opportunities. Michael Clegg hit a post with about 6 minutes to play and then was high on a rebound try. Moy Gomez broke free ahead of the pack only to shoot over the net.

In overtime, Fullerton had most of the possessions despite the lineup disadvantage and outshot the visitors, 4-3.

Fullerton travels to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday night while the Matadors, who were coming off their first-ever win over UCLA, travel to UC Irvine.
