Cal State Fullerton graduate Darren Ong was added to thewomen’s volleyball coaching staff on July 10, 2013.

As the team's volunteer assistant coach, Ong brings six yearsof coaching experience to Head Coach Carolyn Zimmerman’sstaff as the Titans enter the 2013 campaign.
 
"I am very excited to have Darren join our staff,” Zimmermansaid at the time of Ong's hire.  “We are so fortunatethat he can volunteer his time every day to be anadditional coach in our gym.  He has gained a wealth ofexperience over the years, and most recently coaching clubvolleyball with Mizuno Long Beach.  We look forward to hiscontributions in the office and on the court."  
 
A native of Garden Grove, Calif., Ong graduated from Cal StateFullerton in 2011 with a degree in business administration and anemphasis in marketing. He also played two years on the men’sclub team at Fullerton (2009-10).

Since 2007, Ong has been active in the Southern Californiavolleyball community, spending four seasons at his alma mater,Garden Grove High School, in such capacities as the boys’varsity assistant (2007-08), the girls’ varsity assistant(2008-09) and the boys’ varsity head coach (2009-10).

In the spring of 2009, Ong took over the reins of the boys’varsity program, leading the Argonauts to a Garden Grove Leaguechampionship as the team finished the year with its firstundefeated league season.

In 2010, Ong continued at Garden Grove as the boys’ varsityhead coach while also serving as the junior varsity girls’head coach at Cypress High School as well as assisting with thevarsity team. The Centurions advanced to the CaliforniaInterscholastic Federation Southern Section Division 3AAquarterfinals in 2010.

Most recently, Ong served as the girls’ junior varsity headcoach and the varsity assistant at Whittier High School in2012.

In addition, Ong is currently in his fourth year with the MizunoLong Beach Volleyball Club based in Hermosa Beach, Calif., and hascoached athletes from ages 12-18. In 2010 and 2011, Ong served asan assistant to the Rockstar 14U club that finished as silvermedalists competing at the Junior National Championships inback-to-back years.

Ong is also a member of the American Volleyball CoachesAssociation and the National Association of IntercollegiateAthletics.

He graduated from Garden Grove High School in 2005 after spendingthree years on the boys’ varsity squad.
