Titans Lose in Extras at UC San Diego in Game Two

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Titans lose a high-scoring affair in extra innings to UC San Diego by a final score of 10-9 in 10 innings Saturday night at Triton Ballpark. With the loss the Titans fall to 22-30 on the year and 14-15 in Big West play.

The Titans got off to another strong start, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring one run in the first inning and three in the second inning.

Nick Miller led-off the inning with a double, setting up Cameron Kim for an RBI single to put the Titans ahead 1-0.

In the second inning it was a two-out rally that gave Fullerton a 4-0 lead. With Hunter Meyer at second following a leadoff single and sacrifice bunt, Esteban Olazaba hit a double down the left field line to switch spots with Meyer.

After a Paul Contreras walk, Kim hit a triple to the gap in left center field to bring home Olazaba and Contreras to extend the lead to 4-0.

UC San Diego answered in the bottom of the third inning with seven runs to take a 7-4 lead. The Tritons added two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run home run to take a 9-4 lead.

The Titans came storming back in the eighth inning, scoring five runs to tie the game at 9-9. With runners at second and third, Contreras had a productive out to get the first run of the inning across.

Kim then drew a walk to put runners on first and second with two outs. After fouling off three straight pitches, Andrew Kirchner connected for a three-run home run to right field to bring the Titans within one run, 9-8.

Two pitches later, Max Ortega ripped a solo shot over the wall in right field to tie the game at 9-9.

UC San Diego walked the game off in the bottom of the 10th on a dropped fly ball to win the game 10-9.

The Titans had chances to pull ahead in the ninth where they left two runners on base and in the top of the 10th where they left the bases loaded. Fullerton left a total of 15 runners on base.

Fullerton looks to salvage a win in the season finale and secure a spot in The Big West Championship Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
