LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo season came to an end on Friday afternoon in a 18-5 loss against the hosts No. 2 Long Beach State in the Big West Championship Quarterfinals.
The Titans finished their fourth campaign with their first winning record in program history with a 17-15 overall record. Â
Destiny Hernandez led the Titans by scoring a hat trick in her final collegiate game. Â Hernandez also finishes out her three year career as a Titan with the program record of 132 goals and 183 points.Â
Mia Solorzano and
Sofia Moschetti also scored one goal a piece. Â
Renske Boxsem made 8 saves in the cage.  Boxsem finished the season with 201 saves.
It was almost all Long Beach State through the first half of the game. Â The Beach jumped to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. Â They got up to a 9-0 lead in the second quarter before Solorzano broke the shutout with a goal with 3:46 left in the second quarter. Â The Beach added four more goals before the half ended and led 13-1 after two periods.
The Titans finished out the second half strong as it was a 5-4 difference in the second half. Â The Beach scored once in the third before
Sofia Moschetti and
Destiny Hernandez scored in the third to make it a 14-3 game.
Destiny Hernandez picked up the final two goals for the Titans in the fourth quarter to complete the hat trick as the Titans were outscored 4-2 in the final frame.
For the Titans, this was the final game for eight seniors as the team will graduate
