FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team completed the series sweep over UC San Diego with a 4-0 shutout win and 7-1 victory over the Tritons on Sunday. The Titans improved to 19-10 overall and 8-1 in Big West play, marking their best start to conference play since 2024.Â
Kate Verhoef (.556/.556/.667) and
Ava Arce (.222/.222/.556) led the Titans with four runs batted in each over the weekend.
Lulu Sanchez's bat came up big for the Titans against UC San Diego, hitting her first two home runs of the season in consecutive games. As a team, the Titans slashed .403/.442/.571 against the Tritons, recording four doubles, three home runs, 18 RBI, seven walks and 10 stolen bases. Â

The Titans beat the Tritons to the board in the first inning, capitalizing on a defensive error. Perez (2-for-2, R, SB) scored after reaching on a single, stealing a base and assuming third base on a sacrifice fly by
Alexia Lopez.Â

Colby McClinton scored Verhoef (1-for-3, R, SB), who reached on a contested infield single to third base in the fifth inning.Â
Lulu Sanchez extended Fullerton's lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning with a two-run home run hit over the wall in right-center field. This marked her second home run of the season after hitting her first in Saturday's 8-7 victory.Â

Eva Hurtado improved to 5-3, pitching her first complete game of the season and the fifth of her career. The sophomore right-hander from Ladera Ranch, California, set a season high with 7.0 innings pitched and matched her season low of one walk allowed.Â

The Titans batted around in the first inning, plating six runs on six hits. Lozano, Arce,
Maggie Paulovich and Verhoef combined for six RBI, with Lozano and Verhoef driving in for two runners each.Â
Leanna Garcia successfully escaped the top of the second inning with bases loaded, maintaining a 6-0 lead for the Titans.
Sarah Coccillos doubled in the third inning and later scored on a groundout by Arce to extend the lead to 7-0.Â
UC San Diego found its first run of the day in the fourth inning on a ground ball to Garcia in the circle with the bases loaded, cutting the Titans' lead to 7-1. Garcia pitched four innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks.Â
Trisha McCleskey made her second appearance of the weekend in the fifth inning. She pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. The Titans secured the series sweep with a 7-1 victory.
The Titans spend the next two weekends on the road, starting at UC Davis on Saturday, March 28. The Titans and Aggies open the series with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.Â
