Titans Rally for Walk-Off Win Over San Diego State

FULLERTON, Calif. – Trailing by one with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Cal State Fullerton scored two runs on an infield base hit and an error to walk-off San Diego State 3-2 Tuesday night at Goodwin Field. With the win the Titans improve to 7-9 on the year.

The Titans had chances throughout the night to get on the board but weren't able to break through until the eighth inning when Esteban Olazaba scored on a bases loaded wild pitch. However, the Titans were unable to capitalize on more runs in the inning.

Fullerton kept that momentum going in the ninth with back-to-back singles from Max Ortega and Andrew Kirchner to start the inning before Olazaba drew a walk to load the bases.

In his second at-bat after entering the game as a defensive replacement, freshman Hunter Meyer hit a soft ground ball down the third base line to score Brady Dobson from third. The throw home from San Diego State on the play went over the catcher and to backstop, allowing Kirchner to score from second to secure the walk-off victory.

While the Titans offense was unable to get on the scoreboard, their pitching staff kept them in the game. In his first start as a Titan, Nick Santivanez pitched two no-hit innings while striking out two batters.

The Titans pitching staff allowed just two earned runs on two hits while walking three batters and striking out nine. Andrew Wright earned the win to improve to 1-1 after pitching a shutout ninth inning.

Fullerton is back at Goodwin Field this weekend for a three-game conference series against UC Irvine beginning Friday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
