FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team defeated Portland State (3-1) and Boise State (6-5) on Friday night at Anderson Family Field. The Titans stand 3-1 on the season heading into their second meeting with Portland State on Saturday evening. Â
Cal State Fullerton 3, Portland State 1
Portland State scored first with a run in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead over the Titans. The Titans remained quiet until the fourth inning, where they tied the game on a two-out pinch-hit single by
Annika Sogsti (1-for-2, RBI) that scored
Sarah Coccillos from third base.Â

Fullerton gained a 2-1 lead over Portland State in the fifth when
Ava Arce grounded out, allowing
Sarah Perez to score from third after reaching base on a base hit.Â
Coccillos (2-for-3, 2 R, SB) and
Alexia Lopez (2-for-2, BB) opened the sixth inning with back-to-back singles to opposite fields before a double play moved Coccillos over to third base.
Jenica Silvas worked a full count and drew a walk in her collegiate debut, which was followed by a double steal that extended Fullerton's lead to 3-1.Â
Eva Hurtado (1-0) made her second start in the circle and pitched six efficient innings. The 2025 Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
Leanna Garcia made her first appearance since suffering a season-ending leg injury late in the 2025 season. Garcia earned her first save of the season after facing five batters with 19 pitches, including 12 strikes.Â

Boise State grabbed an early 1-0 lead on three hits in the first inning, but the Titans answered with three runs, capitalizing on two defensive errors and a single by
Kate Verhoef.Â
The Titans maintained a 3-1 lead through two scoreless innings before the Broncos cut their lead to 3-2 in the fourth on an unearned RBI single up the middle.Â
Boise State tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning, but the Titans responded in the bottom half with three runs for a 6-3 lead, highlighted by an RBI single by Arce (1-for-3, RBI) and a double by Sogsti (1-for-3, RBI).Â

The Broncos rallied in the seventh to cut Fullerton's deficit to 6-5, pressuring the Titans' coaching staff to make a call to the bullpen.
Trisha McCleskey (12 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) left the game after tossing 6.2 innings, handing the ball over to Garcia. Garcia inherited runners on the corners and induced a pop-up to end the game, securing the 6-5 win and her second save of the day.
The Titans return to Anderson Family Field on Saturday to face Portland State at 5:30 p.m. They will close out opening weekend on Sunday against Boise State at 10:00 a.m.Â
