Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Titans Fall to Concordia

IRVINE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's water polo team fell on the road at Concordia University Irvine 10-7 on Thursday morning at the Woollett Aquatics Center.

The Titans were leading after the first quarter before a big CUI took the lead in the second and held it for the rest of the game.

The Titans made a late comeback towards the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth quarter but could never find the equalizing goal against the Golden Eagles.

In the first quarter, the Titans took an early 2-1 lead behind goals from Destiny Hernandez and Jade Lonzo.  Emme Doube-Macleod stole the ball with three seconds left and fired into an empty CUI net to make it 3-1 just before the first quarter ended.

However, it was all CUI in the second as they outscored the Titans 4-0 to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.

The Titans struck first in the third quarter behind Lotte Boxsem to make it a 5-4 game before the Golden Eagles went on a 3-0 run to take an 8-4 lead.  Sofia Moschetti got two goals back-to-back for the Titans to make it an 8-6 game heading into the final frame.

Destiny Hernandez scored the first goal of the 4th quarter to make it 8-7.  The Titans earned a 5-meter penalty but Jade Lonzo's shot was saved to keep the CUI lead at 8-7.  The Golden Eagles scored twice late in the fourth quarter and the Titans couldn't find the back of the cage the rest of the game.

Renske Boxsem made four saves in the cage for the Titans.

The Titans resume conference play on Saturday when they head to UC Santa Barbara.
