Bakersfield, Calif. – The Fullerton Titans completed their second season sweep on Saturday when the Titans took down the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners 88-80 on the road. Their win on Saturday evening clinched a spot in the Big West Tournament in Henderson, Nev. on March 11-14.
Josh Ward led the team with 20 points, while
KJ Garris had an impressive night behind the arc.
The Titans got on the scoreboard first, taking a 2-0 lead over the Roadrunners, but CSUB caught up, took a lead, and held onto the lead for the remainder of the first half. The Titans trailed 41-42, and logged a 43% field goal percentage, 40% three-point percentage in the first half. Both teams tallied five turnovers. Josh Ward led the Titans in the first half with eight points, two rebounds, an assist and a block.
In the second half, the two teams traded leads for the first ten minutes before
KJ Garris made a three-pointer to give the Titans a 65-64 lead that they would hold onto for the remainder of the game. Fullerton went on a 10 point scoring run, their longest of the game at the eight minute mark.
CSF shot 40% from beyond the arc, and 87% at the charity stripe for a 43% field goal percentage against the Roadrunners. Garris led the team in three pointers made with six, shooting a 66% three-point percentage. Ward led the Titans with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and a block.
The Titans are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 28 at home for Senior Night against Hawaii at 4 p.m. in Titan Gym.
