SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team (4-4)  fell 7-3 to No. 16 Oregon (3-3) in a six-inning contest Friday at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Stanford. The Titans stand 4-4 on the season heading into the tournament's final day.Â
The game was called after six innings due to a predetermined drop-dead time, allowing Santa Clara University time to prepare for and host its own tournament.
Fullerton was held scoreless through five frames, stranding eight runners on base despite putting nine hits on the board.
Nataly Lozano sparked a rally in the sixth with an RBI double off the wall in right-center field.
Lulu Sanchez followed as a pinch hitter and drove in two runners with a single to right field, cutting Oregon's lead to 6-3.
The nationally ranked Ducks scored at least one run in each inning, including a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth off
Hana Winton. Winton was the third Titan arm to face the Ducks after
Trisha McCleskey (2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) and
Eva Hurtado (3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) combined for the first five innings.
Fullerton returns to West Valley College on Saturday for a second meeting against Oregon at 9:30 a.m. The Titans close the weekend against No. 11 Stanford at 2:30 p.m.Â
