SARATOGA, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team concluded its time at the Cardinal Classic with a 5-4 loss to No. 16 Oregon and a 7-1 loss to No. 11 Stanford. The Titans posted a 1-4 record over the weekend and stand 4-6 overall.Â

The Titans out-hit No. 16 Oregon, 7-6, and hit two home runs by
Sarah Coccillos and
Annika Sogsti.Â
Coccillos led off the second inning with a solo home run to center field, recording her second blast of the season, for an early 1-0 lead.Â

The sophomore third baseman recorded her second RBI of the day in the third inning, laying down a bunt single down the third-base line to score
Sarah Perez, who led off the inning with a single to center, extending Fullerton's lead to 2-0.Â

The Ducks answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Starting pitcher
Eva Hurtado walked in a run before
Trisha McCleskey entered in relief. Hurtado retired the side in order in the first inning and finished with three strikeouts, allowing four runs on two hits and four walks over two innings of work.Â
McCleskey entered in relief in the third and allowed one hit before recording the third out. Trailing 4-2, she pitched two scoreless innings as the Titans tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Sogsti, the first of her collegiate career.Â

Oregon regained a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring their winning run on two hits and a fielding error. The Ducks secured their second win over the Titans at the Cardinal Classic as the Titans went down in order in the seventh inning.Â
No. 11 Stanford 7, Cal State Fullerton 1
Stanford quickly jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on an RBI double down the left-field line, then added a two-run home run to right field in the second to take a 3-0 advantage.Â
The Titans Fullerton scored its only run in the fifth inning when
Maggie Paulovich reached on a ground ball to first base, allowing
Kate Verhoef to score.
Stanford continued applying pressure to the pitching staff, facing
Eva Hurtado (1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K), McCleskey (3.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K), and
Hana Winton (0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER).
The Cardinal pushed the lead to 7-1 with a run on a single in the fifth inning, followed by a two-run home run and an RBI single in the sixth.
The Titans are scheduled to host Team Japan at 4:30 p.m. in the Titans Mini International Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
