FULLERTON, Calif. – The Fullerton Titans defeated the UC Merced Bobcats 10-8 on Thursday afternoon at Titan Aquatics Center. Four Titans tallied a pair of goals in Fullerton's fourth victory in a row.
UC Merced struck first and posted two goals to take an early lead before
Francisco Paredes and
Jace Peterson went back-to-back to tie the game at two each with just over two minutes remaining in the period. The Bobcats netted one on a penalty shot to end the first period with a 3-2 lead.
Jason Joseph scored 20 seconds into the second quarter to get the Titans back to a comfortable spot. Parades notched his second of the game after a Bobcats goal to tie the game once again at four. UC Merced lobbed one past the keeper before
Cade Zeilinger and
Ethan MacLeod tallied two to put the Titans on top 6-5 going into halftime.
Denes Dobi and MacLeod each nabbed a goal in the third period to outscore the Bobcats 3-2. Fullerton still led 8-6 after three quarters.
In the fourth, UC Merced posted two goals to Joseph and Peterson's fourth period goals, but Fullerton remained on top to claim the 10-8 victory.
Peterson, MacLeod, Joseph and Parades led the Titans with two goals each. Peterson and MacLeod also tallied a combined five assists; Peterson with two and MacLeod led the team with three. Dobi led CSF with five steals against the Bobcats.
Cy Hammerstrom defended the cage for the first three periods before
Ethan Ivey entered the game and recorded four saves.
The Titans turn their focus to the Gary Troyer this weekend where they are set to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 12:45 p.m. and Chapman at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Fullerton will then face La Verne and Whittier College on Saturday.
