CORVALLIS, Ore. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer fell to Oregon State by a final score of 4-2 Thursday night on the road. The Titans suffer their first loss of the season and fall to 1-1-2 on the year.
Fullerton struck first in the 18th minute of the first half, scoring on a loose ball in the box off a corner kick that Aiden Bengard finished off for his first goal of the season.
Oregon State quickly responded with a goal in the 25th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The Beavers went on to take a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 37th minute.
For the second time this season, the Titans ended up down a man after Avery Huggins was sent off later in the 37th minute. Huggins was initially given a yellow card but after VAR was given a red card.
While down a man, the Titans fell behind 3-1 in the second half after an Oregon State goal in the 60th minute.
However, Fullerton didn't give up, earning a PK after a foul inside the 18-yard box. Fernando Valenzuela took the PK and finished with ease to bring the Titans within one goal, 3-2 with 30 minutes to play.
Emanuel Padilla got the start in goal and did his best to keep the Titans in the game. Padilla recorded five saves on the night and none bigger than stopping an attacker one vs. one in the 74th minute.
The Beavers all but sealed the game in the 88th minute with their fourth goal of the game to take a 4-2 lead.
Fullerton is back in action Monday night for another road game, this time at California Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
