FULLERTON, Calif. – The Men's Water Polo team wrapped up the weekend on a high note with a 16-8 victory over the Biola Eagles after letting Harvard slip away with a win in the first match. Entering Saturday's doubleheader, Titans Head Coach,
Kyle Witt had 299 career wins to his name. Coach Witt led Fullerton to victory under the lights, translating to Witt's 300
th career win.
Titans 12, Harvard 13
The Fullerton Titans (5-7) fell late to Harvard (5-5) in the first game of the Titans doubleheader on Saturday. Fullerton and Harvard stayed within reach of each other for the first three quarters, but Harvard eventually slipped away with a win thanks to their four goals in the fourth quarter.
Andrew Barnuevo led the Titans once again with four goals as he kicked off the game with a goal in the first minute.
Ethan MacLeod and
Alec Isaacman added on, heading into the second quarter with the game tied at three. Barnuevo struck again in the second with a pair of goals and then
Jacob Hatch and Isaacman tacked on two more giveing the Titans a 7-6 lead going into the second half.
Luke Vargas, MacLeod and
Marton Thuroczy matched Harvard's three goals in the third, keeping the Titans on top with a 10-9 lead. Harvard outscored the Titans 4-2 in the final frame, leading to their close 12-13 victory.
Ethan Ivey was posted at the cage for the entirety of the game and logged 7 saves while the Titans defense tallied six steals.
Nico D'Angelo led the team in assists with four of the Titans 10 against Harvard.
Titans 16, Biola 8
The Fullerton Titans jumped in the pool one last time for the weekend with high energy. The Titans worked together to outscore the Biola Eagles (2-9) in each of the four quarters, leading to a 16-8 win to close out the weekend.
Carmelo Bangs, D'Angelo and MacLeod helped the Titans come out on top with three goals each. Isaacman and Hatch also logged a multi-goal game.
Julian Nichols,
Francisco Paredes, and Thuroczy also found their way to the back of the net in the final game of the day.
Hatch stood out for the Titans, logging two goals, two assists, two drawn exclusions, and led Fullerton with three steals. The senior also won two sprints for the Titans.
Fullerton made their way onto the board first and held on to the lead for the entire game. The Titans entered the second half with a 9-5 lead and never let the Eagles catch up.
The Titans are back at home on Saturday, Sept. 20 for the Fullerton Mini Tournament, welcoming Fresno Pacific and Cal Lutheran.
