Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Early Mistakes Plague Titans in Loss at LMU

LOS ANGELES – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer fell to LMU by a final score of 9-2 Thursday night at Sullivan Field. With the loss the Titans drop to 1-2-3 on the year.

Early mistakes plagued the Titans as a foul inside the 18-yard box gave LMU a penalty kick in the seventh minute of play. LMU converted to take a 1-0 lead.

In the 16th minute, Fullerton was given a red card for yet another penalty in the box to give LMU its second penalty kick of the game to fall behind 2-0.

With the Titans playing down a man, LMU quickly took advantage, scoring in the 22nd minute to take a commanding 3-0 lead. The Lions extended their lead to 4-0 in the 28th minute.

Fullerton got on the board just before halftime, earning a penalty kick of its own in the 44th minute which Mario Carlos capitalized on to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The Titans cut the lead in half, 4-2, in the 53rd minute as Hughie Eaton scored his first collegiate goal. Eaton tracked a shot at the LMU goalkeeper and gathered the loose ball to score on an empty net.

The thought of a comeback was short-lived as LMU scored in the 58th minute to retake a three goal lead, 5-2.

The Titans were issued their second red card of the game in the 64th minute of play, leaving them to play with nine on the field for the remainder of the game. The Titans have been issued four red cards in the first six games of the season.

LMU took advantage of the shorthanded Titans, scoring four goals over the final 26 minutes of action.

After starting the season with six consecutive road games, Fullerton is back at home Sunday evening for its home opener against Grand Canyon. Sunday's game is a doubleheader with the women's soccer team and is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
