Softball Sweeps Long Beach State with 1-0 Victory

Trisha McCleskey picks up her 10th win of the season in shutout win

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team completed the sweep over crosstown rivals Long Beach State in a 1-0 shutout victory on Sunday. The Titans sit 10-5 in Big West play, while holding a 24-14 record overall. 

Kristalyn Romulo got the Titans on the board in the top of the third after leading off the inning with a walk. Romulo stole third and advanced home on a throwing error by Long Beach's catcher for an early 1-0 lead over The Beach. Romulo grabbed her 16th bag of the spring, ranking in the conference's top three for most stolen bases this season. 

Trisha McCleskey entered the circle in relief of Eva Hurtado (2.2 IP, 3 H) with bases loaded, escaping the situation with a ground ball to Sarah Perez at shortstop. McCleskey (4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 K) recorded her 10th win of the season in the shutout victory. 

The Beach found a hint of momentum in the bottom of the sixth inning, finding two base runners on a base hit and error, but Nataly Lozano flexed her arm strength from right field, retiring the tying run at third base. 



The Titans return to Anderson Family Field for a two-week homestand against CSUN and UC Davis. The Titans and Matadors open their series in Fullerton on Friday night (6:00 p.m.) before their Swiftie Saturday doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
