ANAHEIM, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton dropped Tuesday night's midweek game at Angel Stadium to No. 8 UC Irvine by a final score of 5-1. The Titans drop to 23-21 on the year with the loss.Â
UC Irvine struck first, scoring one run in the top of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. The Anteaters added two runs in the third inning to extend their lead to 3-0.Â
The Titans answered with one run in the bottom half of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Kirchner, bringing home Cam Burdick.Â
Fullerton missed an opportunity to score more runs in the third after having runners bases loaded with no outs and a runner being thrown out at home with one out. The Titans failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities all game, leaving 10 runners on base.Â
Freshmen Brady Dockan and Landon Martin had strong outings in relief for the Titans. Dockan threw 2.1 shutout innings while giving up just one hit. Martin tossed 1.1 no-hit innings, walking just one batter.Â
UC Irvine added to its lead in the eighth inning, scoring two runs to extend its lead to 5-1.Â
The Titans are back in action this weekend at Goodwin Field as UC Santa Barbara comes to town for a three-game Big West series beginning Friday night.
