DAVIS, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's pitching staff threw its third shutout of the season to earn a 2-0 victory at UC Davis Saturday night. With the win the Titans secure the series victory while improving to 22-20 on the year and 13-7 in Big West play.
Jason Krakoski had one of his best performances as a Titan, tossing a career-high four shutout innings while giving up just two hits, walking two batters and striking out three.
Fullerton struggled at the plate all night, recording a season-low three hits, but did just enough to get the job done. The Titans scored both runs in the top of the second inning on an infield RBI by Isaiah Gomez that scored Paul Contreras before a throwing error allowed Eli Lopez to score.
After the second inning, the Titans didn't record a hit until the ninth inning and had just two base runners.
The Titans pitching staff stepped up with the offense struggling. Jason Blood pitched three shutout innings in relief, giving up just three hits while striking out three. Blood earned the win to improve to 3-2 on the year.
Ryan Faulks pitched a scoreless eighth inning and struckout two. Following a leadoff double in the ninth the Titans went to their closer, Andrew Wright, to finish the game.
Wright earned his eighth save of the season after getting the final three outs with a runner at second. The junior struckout two of the three batters he faced. With his eighth save of the season, Wright has the most since Brett Conine recorded 10 saves in 2018.
Fullerton is back in action Sunday afternoon for the series final against UC Davis. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
