SAN DIEGO ā Cal State Fullerton baseball dropped its midweek matchup at San Diego State by a final score of 13-3 in eight innings Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the loss the Titans drop to 20-20 on the year.Ā
Fullerton failed to capitalize with runners on base and in scoring position all night, leaving a total of 16 runners on. The Titans missed a great opportunity to set the tone in the first inning, leaving the bases loaded.Ā
San Diego State on the other hand scored one in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Aztecs added one in the second to extend their lead to 2-0.Ā
The Titans got on the board in the third inning thanks to an RBI single from Jakob Schardt to bring home Paul Contreras from second base.Ā
San Diego State answered with a run in the home half of the inning to retake a two-run lead, 3-1. The Aztecs scored two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead.Ā
Fullerton drove in two runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 5-3 on an RBI single by Carter Johnstone and sacrifice fly from Max Ortega. However, the Titans had the bases loaded with no outs after Johnstone's run-scoring single and were only able to score one run.Ā
San Diego State answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning before adding one in the seventh to open an 11-3 lead. The Aztecs closed out the game with a two-run double in the eighth inning with the run rule in effect.Ā
The Titans return to Big West play this weekend as the team heads north to take on UC Davis in a three-game series beginning Friday night.
