Titans Drop Series Opener Against Hawai'i

Ava Arce (1-for-4, 2 RBI), Nataly Lozano (1-for-3, 2 R, RBI) drive in three Titan runs on home runs

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team fell to Hawai'i by a score of 11-6 in its series-opener matchup Friday night at Anderson Family Field. The Titans stand 19-13 on the season and 6-4 in Big West play.

Colby McClinton (0-for-1, RBI) broke the Titans onto the scoreboard (1-0) in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Alexia Lopez, who initially reached on a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

The Rainbow Wahine tied the game at 1-1 on a lead off home run to right field in the top of the third inning, before plating two additional runs in the fourth on an extra base hit for a 3-1 lead over the Titans.

Lopez (2-for-3, 2B, 3 R) brought the game within one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, capitalizing on a defensive error.

A four run fifth inning for Hawai'i forced the Titans to make a call to their bullpen after a three-run shot over the center field wall gave the Rainbow Wahine to 7-2. Eva Hurtado entered in relief of Trisha McCleskey (4.2 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, BB, 3 K), finding the third out on a ground ball to third base.

The Rainbow Wahine plated four more runs on a two-out rally in the sixth, extending their lead to 11-2.

Ava Arce (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) smashed her fifth home run of the season over the center field wall, escaping a run-rule scenario. The two-run blast cut Fullerton's deficit to 11-4, before Sarah Coccillos found the fifth run for the Titans on a base hit to center field.

Nataly Lozano recorded her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring the game within five runs (11-6) before the Titans fell to the Rainbow Wahine.

The Titans and Rainbow Wahine return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
