Robinson's Career Night Gouged by Gauchos

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans traveled to Santa Barbara to take on the UCSB Gauchos at The Thunderdome Thursday night. The Titans were looking to flip the outcome from the two teams' previous matchup, but the hot shooting performance of UCSB was too much to overcome in the 86-56 loss as Fullerton fell to 6-22 on the season.

The Titans kept the contest close in the early portion of the first half as Donovan Oday hit his opening jumper from beyond the arc to answer a quick 4-0 start from the Gauchos.

Fullerton maintained UCSB's pace with a shifty Lolo Rudolph reverse layup that was followed by Kendrick De Luna's athletic spin-move finish to tie the game at 7-7 with 15:47 remaining in the first half.

The Titans offense struggled to produce buckets the next few possessions as they only scored four points in nearly five minutes of play before Antwan Robinson hit back-to-back 3-point baskets to bring the Titans within two at 24-22 with 7:23 to play in the opening half.

Oday and Robinson combined for 21 of Fullerton's 27 first half points, but their offensive production was not enough to keep up with the Gauchos as they finished the half on a 9-0 run to pull ahead 38-27.

Robinson added to his career night by opening the half with his third 3-pointer of the game, however, that was the only silver lining as the Titans couldn't seem to buy a bucket from that point forward.

Fullerton finished the half shooting 36.4 percent while Santa Barbara went the opposite way and finished the game shooting 53.2 percent from the field.

The incendiary shooting performance was enough to carry the Gauchos to an 86-56 victory and send the Titans home with a 1-15 conference record.

Robinson led the way in scoring for the Titans, going 4-of-6 from beyond the arc to finish with a career high 16 points and four 3-pointers.

Kobe Young was aggressive on the glass pulling down eight boards while Oday and De Luna finished the game with double-digit points.

The Titans are back in action Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m. in Titan Gym to face the UC Irvine Anteaters.
