Portland Ore. – The Titans hit the court for the second day in a row and picked up a win against the St. Thomas Tommies. The game was tight knit on both sides as the largest gap of the day was nine points. After trailing at the half, the Titans made a late comeback for their second win of the season.
The Titans put themselves in a good spot by the end of the first half, only trailing by four. Fullerton felt comfortable from behind the arc as they netted five three-pointers in the first 12 minutes. Freshmen,
Christian Williams and
Bryce Cofield each logged a pair from behind the arc.
Landon Seaman then went on to tally eight of the Titans first half points in the next six minutes.
The Titans and Tommies both posted a 38% shooting percentage in the first half and CSF outscored St. Thomas, 31%-28% from behind the arc. Seaman led the team with 10 first half points from off the bench while the rest of the bench posted five.
Fullerton opened the second half with back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 37 before the Tommies took it back and let the Titans play catch-up. With 11 minutes remaining, the Titans found themselves within one, but shortly after, they allowed the Tommies to successfully find the basket, going on a 7-0 run before
Joshua Ward shut it down.
By the two-minute mark, the Titans chopped down on St. Thomas' lead for a 76-73 score when a technical was called on the Tommies bench.
Joshua Ward was sent to the line, successful in both shots followed by
Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro nabbing a bucket from behind the arc to take their first lead since early on in the first half.
The Tommies answered back, tying the game at 78, but
KJ Garris found the net to take the lead once again. Two Tommies fouls gave the Titans four chances at the line and they were successful in all four, taking an 84-78 lead with 20 seconds to play.
Following a Tommies basket, were back-to-back fouls, sending Ward and Williams to the line, both perfect at the line to seal an 88-80 win on the road for the Titans.
Fullerton logged a 46% shooting percentage which put them on top of the Tommies who shot 40%. The Titans were nine for 29 behind the arc. CSF tallied 36 points in the paint and a total of 29 off the bench.
Ward led the Titans with 20 points, four rebounds, six assists, a block and two steals. The Titans put together a team effort as five other Titans rallied double digit points on Saturday.
The Titans are back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. when they take on Northern Colorado for the final game of the Portland Tournament.
