Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Titans Fall to No. 13 Pepperdine in Malibu

Andrew Barnuevo logs a hat trick in Titans loss to No.13 Pepperdine on the road.

Malibu, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton Men's Water Polo team took a trip to Malibu on Sunday afternoon to take on the No. 13 Pepperdine Waves in a non-conference matchup. The game ended in the Waves' favor as small mistakes for the Titans led to their defeat. Fullerton fell 21-10 to Pepperdine on Sunday.

The Titans kept up with the Pepperdine Waves in the first half, but penalties against the Titans eventually led to a Pepperdine win. Pepperdine capitalized on the Titans mistakes as they were six for six in penalty shots.

Alec Isaacman and Nico D'Angelo each tallied a goal in the first quarter while the Pepperdine Waves posted four. Jacob Hatch and Andrew Barnuevo dominated in the second quarter as Hatch posted back-to-back goals and Barnuevo recorded a hat trick. The Titans trailed 7-11 going into the second half.

The Waves continued to impress the crowd with their offense and their defense shined, holding the Titans to just three goals in the second half. D'Angelo and Luke Vargas netted one each in the third and Francisco Paredes shot one past the keeper in the final frame.

Barnuevo led the Titans with three goals and three drawn exclusions while Togan Ozbek led with three assists. Ethan Ivey guarded the cage and recorded seven saves.

The Titans are back at home on Friday, Nov. 7 as they host Concordia at 6 p.m. for Senior Night, celebrating Hatch, Barnuevo and Noah Stark.
