FULLERTON, Calif. - The new look Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball defeated the Claremont-Mudd Scripps Athenas on Monday in a convincing 91-53 victory at Titan Gym on Monday night.

Every Titan who played scored at least one point while the Titans had three in double figures.  Forwards Nicole Steiner and Cristina Jones both scored 18 points.  Maddy Tauro also scored 13 points. The Titans shot 48% from the floor and won the rebounding battle 44-to-31.  The Titans defense forced 37 turnovers which led to 41 points and 27 via fast break.  The Titans offense also dominated inside by outscoring CMS 48-to-12 on points inside the paint.

The Titans jumped to an early 14-5 lead in the first quarter before the Athenas started clawing back.  The Athenas sank 5 three pointers in the first quarter and quarter finished with the score tied 19-19.

Both teams traded baskets early in the second quarter and CMS took a 29-27 lead over the Titans with 5:45 left in the first half. After a CMS basket with 1:30 left to go made it a six-point game (37-31).  The Titans scored five points over the final 90 seconds to take 42-32 lead into halftime.

The third quarter is where the Titans left the Athenas in the dust as they outscored them 32-to-11. The relentless full court press led to the Titans going on a 19-0 run over the first 4 minutes of the third quarter.  Nicole Steiner made four layups over the span. 

The Titans extended their lead to 31 points before the quarter ended and led 74-43 after three quarters.  The Titans outscored the Athenas 17-to-10 over the final frame as they stretched their lead to it's furthest point at 38 points.

The Titans will begin the season officially next Tuesday against Pepperdine. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Titan Gym.
