FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titan's women's basketball team were defeated 72-60 against Long Beach State at home on Saturday afternoon at Titan Gym.

The Titans rallied back from a 17-point deficit at 53-36 with 4:20 left in the third quarter.  The Titans brought that lead all the way down to just a 3-point lead at 59-56 with 4:29 left in the game.  However, the Titans ran out of steam at the end as the Beach went on a 13-4 run to finish the game.

Aaliyah Stanton led the Titans with 16 points despite a tough shooting night, she was 9-for-11 at the free throw line. Emily Strachan scored a career high 14 points and went a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line.  Layla Davis had 10 points and 6 rebounds as she once again started at center.  Maddy Tauro scored 9 points and played a big part of the Titans comeback attempt against the Beach. Long Beach shot 45% from the floor while the Titans shot 29.7% from the floor.  The Titans had a tough night beyond the arc shooting just 11.8% (2-for-17).  The Beach outrebounded the Titans 46-to-36 and their bigs had 9 blocks for the game.

It was a pretty even start for both sides to start the game as they traded baskets at the beginning of the first quarter.  Madelynn Muniz made an early 3-pointer and Layla Davis had two layups to give the Titans an early lead in the first quarter.

Long Beach got up a six point lead before the Titans cut it down to just two points at 20-18 to end the first quarter.

The Beach separated themselves early in the second quarter as they scored the first 10 points of the period and outscored the Titans 17-to-8 during the frame.  The Beach led 37-26 at the halftime break.

Long Beach got up to their largest lead of the game at 53-36 with 4:20 left in the third quarter. The Titans then went on a 11-0 run during the final four minutes and cut the lead to six points at 53-47 at the end of the period.  Maddy Tauro, Emily Strachan, Aaliyah Stanton, and Layla Davis led the Titans comeback effort.

The Titans continued their momentum from the end of the third quarter into the start of the fourth quarter.   Maddy Tauro made back-to-back jumpers from the key to cut the lead to three pointers (59-56) with 4:29 left in the game.

However, the Titans made six turnovers during the crucial final minutes of the game and only scored four points while the Beach got 13 points to close out the game.

The Titans will head back on the road next week as they take on Cal State Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara.
