Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fullerton Hits Paydirt at the Gold Mine

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball dominated Long Beach State from start to finish Saturday evening to earn its first Big West victory of the season with a 83-67 win at the Gold Mine. With the win the Titans improve to 6-14 on the year and 1-7 in Big West play.

Due to a facilities issue at Walter Pyramid the game was moved to the Gold Mine (West Gym) for Saturday's contest at Long Beach State.

Despite the multitude of court lines and proximity of the bleachers to the court among other factors, the Titans had one of their best shooting halves of the season in the first half, shooting 62 percent on 13-of-21 while going 5-of-7 from three-point range.

Fullerton started on fire from behind the arc, hitting five of its first five three-point shots over the first nine minutes of action while shooting 9-of-11 overall from the field.

The Titans took a double-digit lead thanks to a strong finish in the lane by Kaleb Brown to put the Titans up 21-11 at the 11:51 mark. Fullerton held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Fullerton extended its lead to 32-17 with 7:58 left in the half following back-to-back buckets in the lane from Donovan Oday. The Texas native scored 10 points in the first half on a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

Antwan Robinson scored a career-high 14 points in just the first half of action on 3-of-5 shooting and 2-of-4 from three-point range while going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Fullerton's defense was stifling The Beach in the first half, holding its leading scorer Devin Askew to zero points on 0-of-6 shooting while the team shot 42.9 percent and just 22.2 percent from three.

The Titans went into the locker room at halftime with an 11-point lead, 40-29.

Fullerton didn't let up in the second half, going on a 7-0 run and 13-3 extended run to take a commanding 53-32 lead. Zion Richardson got the Titans offense going right away in the second half, drilling a three-pointer with a hand in his face to carry the momentum over.

The Titans defense didn't ease up with a big lead, forcing 12 second half turnovers including three consecutive trips down the court from Long Beach State.

Oday and Richardson took over in the second half for the Titans as they scored 14 and 12 points, respectively. Oday finished the game with a team-high 24 points while Richardson finished with 15 points to tie his Fullerton career-high.

The Titans offense finished the game shooting 56.3 percent from the field, its second-highest shooting percentage of the season, while shooting a season-high 57.1 percent from three-point range.

Fullerton looks to carry its momentum back to Titan Gym next week as it hosts Cal State Bakersfield Thursday and UC Santa Barbara Saturday.
