SPOKANE, Wash. – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in straight sets (25-18, 25-12, 25-23) to Utah Tech at the Gonzaga Invite on Thursday night. The Titans (0-4) fought through 14 ties and eight lead changes before coming up short against the Trailblazers (3-1).

The Titans beat Utah Tech to the board on a Lyla Traylor kill assisted by Ryleigh Garis. The set started to get away from the Titans, who hit .100, as the Trailblazers went on a 4-0 and 5-0 scoring runs for a 15-9 lead over the Titans. Fullerton fell 25-18 to Utah Tech in the first set after collecting 11 kills, 10 digs and one block. Traylor led the team with six kills and a .364 hitting percentage at the end of the first set. 

Fullerton found themselves trailing from behind throughout the second set after tying it up at 2-2 on a kill by Lolo Fonua. The Titans recorded a total of eight kills with three attacking errors and one service error. As a team, they posted a .036 hitting percentage with eight assists. Down 20-12, the Titans let Utah Tech secure a second set win on a 5-0 scoring run. The Trailblazers jumped to a 2-0 lead after taking the second set over the Titans, 25-12. 

A service error awarded the Titans a 1-0 lead to open the third set, where they found 20 of their 33 kills. The Titans found their rhythm after a back-and-forth match of tying the set, taking a 7-4 lead over Utah Tech. The lead pressured Utah Tech to call timeout, but the Titans increased their scoring run to 5-0 following the break on an attacking error. 

The dueling squads maintained a close spread as they matched one another's scores 10 times while swapping leads seven tims. The Titans who led 21-20, were not able to force a fourth set following a 4-0 run paired with a set of kills by Utah Tech and Titan attacking error. Utah Tech successfully completed a three-set sweep over the Titans (25-23). 

Cal State Fullerton returns to the Gonzaga Invite court on Saturday to face Gonzaga at 6:00 p.m.
