Titans Smash Five Past Nevada on Thursday

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team had their highest offensive output in five years after scoring five goals against Nevada in a 5-1 victory at home on Thursday night at Titan Stadium.

The Titans had five unique goal scorers for the game with three players scoring their first career collegiate goals and six players picking up their first ever career points.  The Titans outshot the Wolfpack 15-to-9 for the match with 8 shots on goal compared to Nevada's 5 shots on goal.

The Titans got the action flowing early after Isabella Cruz scored her first goal of the season in the eighth minute of the game.  After a foul on top of the box, Cruz drilled the freekick to put the Titans up 1-0.

Nevada equalized nearly five minutes later as the Titans were playing with 10 players temporarily while an injured player was being tended to off the pitch.  Nevada was able to take advantage of the situation and had a cross reach an unmarked Nevada player who redirected it back into the far corner of the net.

After a spell of momentum for Nevada the Titans were able to regain the lead in the 38th minute on a perfect counter-attack. Graci Raymond cleared a Nevada ball up to Kaylee Noble inside the circle.  Noble played a perfect diagonal ball to Sail Bozinovic who crossed it back to Noble on her first touch and Noble was able to one-time her shot past the Nevada keeper to make it a 2-1 game.

The Titans pressed the Wolfpack defense coming out of the halftime break and were rewarded in the 50th minute.  Isabellas Contreras played a ball down the left side to Ashlyn Gwynn and Gwynn beat her defender on the dribble.  She crossed the ball to a wide open Talei Moodie who shot it past the keeper for her first collegiate goal.  That goal was the first collegiate points for all three players involved.

The Titans scored a fourth goal in the 77th minute.  Kaitlin Taylor was being fouled near the top of the box but the referee played advantage and she was able to pass it back to Karla Rodriguez.  Rodriguez lofted a beautifully chipped ball over the Nevada defense to Cayla Oliveira.  The freshman brought the ball down and rifled a shot past the Nevada keeper for her first career goal in just her second career game.

The Titans added their fifth and final goal of the game in the 83rd minute.  Kaitlin Taylor played a short pass to Jenae Perez inside the Titans half of the field.  Perez hit a perfect long ball over the Nevada defense and the freshman Sasha Amezcua was able to get to the ball.  On her first touch of the game she calmly hit it to the left corner of the net to score her first career goal.

The Titans will play an Alumni game the following evening at 6:00 PM at Titan Stadium.  On Sunday, the Titans will take on their toughest test of the season when they host No. 2 Stanford at 2 PM.  The Cardinal are 3-0 to start the season and coming off a 3-1 win over San Diego State on Thursday.

NOTES: The last time the Titans scored five goals in a game was a 5-0 win at Northern Colorado on August 30th, 2019.  The Titans squared off against the University of Nevada for the first time in program history with former Titan Vanessa Valentine (2001-04) at the helm of the Wolf Pack.
