Titans Advance to Day Three of Stanford Regional

Colby McClinton hits a grand slam in 7-0 win over Mississippi State

NCAA Bracket

STANFORD, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton softball defeated Saint Mary's (6-1) and Mississippi State (7-0) in back-to-back elimination games to keep their season alive at the Stanford Regional on Saturday.

Cal State Fullerton 6, Saint Mary's 1

Staci Chambers faced the minimum number of batters in the first inning as Kika Ramirez recorded the first out on an unassisted ground ball and back-to-back strikeouts.

Ramirez (1-for-2, RBI) drove in the first Titan run of the 2024 postseason with a base hit down the left-field line, scoring Megan Delgadillo (single, stolen base). Peyton Toto's infield single drove in Bailey Wallace (walk) and was followed by a sacrifice fly by Ava Arce that scored Sarah Perez, who pinch ran for Ramirez. Jessi Alcala continued the rally with a single to center field to score Toto (2-for-4, RBI, R) for a 4-0 lead over the Saint Mary's Gaels.

The Titans found their fifth run in the bottom of the second inning with a base hit to left-center field by Hannah Becerra. The hit scored Bailey Wallace (1-for-2, 2 R, 2 BB) from second base.

Jessi Alcala (2-for-2, HR, 2 RBI) smashed her fourth home run of the season over the left field pole for a 6-0 lead over the Gaels in the third inning. Alcala's homer and the Titans eighth hit forced a pitching change by Saint Mary's.

Delgadillo, who reached on a fielder's choice, stole her second base of the game and her 40th of the season. She is 40-for-42 on stolen base attempts and is tied for third in the nation with Jackson State's Kaliyah Gipson.

Chambers pitched 6.2 scoreless innings before Saint Mary's scored their first run on a triple over KK Christie's head in right field. Chambers finished the game with four hits, one run and seven strikeouts, ending the Gaels postseason run. With this 6-1 win, the Titans survived the first elimination game at the Stanford Regional.

Cal State Fullerton 7, Mississippi State 0

The Titans and Bulldogs met for the second time this weekend, the first meeting ending in a 1-0 loss for the Titans on Friday.

The game remained scoreless with five combined hits (three for Fullerton) until the bottom of the fifth inning. After the Titans won the challenge on a Delgadillo caught stealing call with one out on the board, Wallace earned first base on a hit by pitch. Ramirez re-entered the game to bat, loading the bases with an infield single to Mississippi State's shortstop. Hannah Becerra gave the Titans the game's first lead (1-0) with a hard-hit ball to third base.

Peyton Toto kept the inning alive a batter later, driving two runs in on a single through the left side. Wallace and Jazmin Williams (pinch ran) scored on the play.

The inning was capped off with a grand slam to left-center by Colby McClinton, scoring Ava Arce (single), Savannah Favre (pinch ran) and Becerra. McClinton's fourth home run of the year came with four RBI (15 RBI).

Haley Rainey (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 4 K) and Leanna Garcia (1.0 IP, ) secured the win for the Titans after upsetting Mississippi State.
