Titans Split Doubleheader at CSUN

Megan Delgadillo (3 RBI) and Sarah Perez (2 RBI) hit two-run triples in series-opening win

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton Titans Softball defeated the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 6-2, before splitting the doubleheader in a 3-1 loss on Friday. The Titans are 23-13 on the season and 9-2 against Big West opponents.

Cal State Fullerton 6, CSUN 2

The Titans put up four runs on five hits in the top of the third inning, leaving one runner on base. Megan Delgadillo sent a ball into shallow left-center to score Colby McClinton (2-for-3, 2B, 2 R) from second base for a 1-0 lead over the Matadors.

Sarah Perez scored Delgadillo and Wallace (single) with a triple to right-center field for a 3-0 lead over CSUN. Delgadillo, who recently broke Fullerton's all-time record for career runs scored (151) against Cal State Bakersfield, scored her 35th run of the season.

Ava Arce continued the rally with a single through the right side before getting called out at second base on a fielder's choice a batter later.

The Titans found themselves up 6-0 in the fourth inning as Delgadillo hit the second two-run triple of the day to right-center field. The Big West Field Player of the Week collected her 13th RBI of the season.

Delgadillo's triple recorded her 55th hit of the season, setting her at 241 career hits. She is eight hits away from tying Yasmin Mossadeghi (1999-02) for third-most all-time career hits (249) and 17 hits away from passing Sue Lewis (1981-84) for the most career hits (257) recorded by a Titan.

Haley Rainey (12-4) held the Matadors to five hits and no runs with four strikeouts through five innings. Rainey leads the conference in both overall (1.64) and conference (0.69) ERA. So far this season, she has held conference opponents to a .192 batting average.

Hailey Harris entered the circle in the sixth inning, giving up two runs and a walk. Through two innings, Harris collected her 10th strikeout of the season and secured a 6-2 win for the Titans.

CSUN 3, Cal State Fullerton 1

Delgadillo led off the game, reaching and scoring on two defensive errors. She stole her 32nd base in between reaching first and crossing home.

Staci Chambers started in the circle for the 13th time this season and struck out the first two batters before completing a 1-2-3 inning with an unassisted ground ball to Peyton Toto at first base.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Titans through five innings before the Matadors found a base-clearing double to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for their first lead over the Titans across both games.

Hannah Becerra drew a four-pitch walk to start the top of the seventh inning, and a base hit by Peyton Toto followed. The Titans left bases loaded to split the day with the Matadors 1-1.

The Titans and Matadors finish the series on Sunday at the Matador Diamond Stadium with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
