Titans Sweep UC San Diego in a 5-4 Victory

Bailey Wallace (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Ava Arce (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) propel Titans to win

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball completed the sweep over UC San Diego with a 5-4 victory at Anderson Family Field on Saturday. The Titans improved to 27-14 overall and sit atop The Big West standings with a 13-2 conference record.

Megan Delgadillo led off the game with a triple to right-center field. Bailey Wallace (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R) drove her in for the game's first run with a single down the left-field line.

Ava Arce grabbed a 2-0 lead for the Titans later in the first inning with a single up the middle that scored Wallace.

The Tritons tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning with a two-run single that got through the left side of the infield. Before this hit, Staci Chambers (4.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 K) had not allowed a run in the last 20 innings pitched.

Wallace responded in the bottom half of the third with a single to center field to score Delgadillo for a 3-2 lead over UCSD.

Peyton Toto, who went 5-for-9 on the weekend with a double and stolen base, reached on a fielding error by the shortstop. Wallace scored on the play, extending Fullerton's lead to 4-2.

UC San Diego tied the game up at 4-4 in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to the blue shed in left field. Tied at 4-4, Ava Arce launched her second home run ball over the wall in right field for a go-ahead solo homer. The Titans were able to defend their 5-4 lead over the Tritons through the top of the seventh to clinch their third conference series sweep of the season.

Haley Rainey earned her 14th win of the season after pitching three hit-less innings in relief of Chambers. She walked one batter and struck out four. Three of the four strikeouts happened in a 1-2-3 seventh inning to finish the game.

The Titans take a road trip to UC Santa Barbara for a three-game series starting Saturday, April 20. The Titans and Gauchos play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. They finish the series on Sunday with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
