Softball Defeats UCSB Twice in Doubleheader

Haley Rainey pitches no-hitter, Kelly Ford earns win No. 400

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton softball secured the series win over UC Santa Barbara after defeating the Gauchos 3-0 and 6-2 at the Campus Diamond on Saturday. The Titans improve to 29-14 on the season and stand atop the Big West standings with a 15-2 conference record.

Haley Rainey (7 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 6 BB, 12 K) pitched her second no-hitter of the season in the series opener. 

Head of the Titans Kelly Ford achieved her 400th Division I career win following the second win of the day. All 400 of her wins at the Division I level have come as the head of Titans Softball. She has 855 total wins between Mt. San Antonio College and Cal State Fullerton. 

Cal State Fullerton 3, UC Santa Barbara 0

Megan Delgadillo led off the first inning with a base hit up the middle, tying Yasmin Mossadeghi (1999-02) for the third-most career hits (249) as a Titan. Delgadillo recorded her 250th career hit in the third inning with a double to center field, passing Mossadeghi. 
 

Delgadillo (3-for-4, 2B, R, SB) recorded her 65th hit of the season for a total of 251 hits in her career. She is six away from tying Sue Lewis (1981-84) for the all-time career hits record (257). 

Bailey Wallace (1-for-4, RBI) scored the game's first run with an RBI single through the left side to score Kate Verhoef, who reached on a lead-off walk in the third inning. Hannah Becerra drove in Delgadillo with a sacrifice bunt for a 2-0 lead over the Gauchos. 

Becerra (1-for-1, HR, 2 RBI, R) sent her seventh home run over the fence in left-center in the fifth inning, extending Fullerton's lead to 3-0. She holds the third-most career home runs in program history and sits four away from tying Missy Taukeiaho (2014-16) for the second-most home runs. 
 

Haley Rainey (15-4) pitched her second no-hitter in the 3-0 win over the Gauchos on Saturday. Rainey silenced the Gauchos through seven innings with no hits, six walks, and a career-high 12 strikeouts. 
 

Her first no-hitter came in her six-inning perfect game against Pacific at Anderson Family Field on Feb. 10. The last Titan to throw a no-hitter was teammate Staci Chambers against Colorado State on Feb. 11.

Candace Yingling started the scoring in the top of the second inning with an infield single that resulted in a rundown and the advancement of both runners into scoring positions. Colby McClinton (single) and Alexia Lopez (single) scored on the play, putting the Titans ahead 2-0. 
 

Lopez (1-for-2, RBI, R) became the third runner to cross the plate as Delgadillo drove her in with a groundout to second base. Wallace (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) extended Fullerton's lead to 4-0 before the end of the second inning with a double down the left-field line. 

Delgadillo (1-for-4, RBI) hit a blooper into shallow left field in the fourth inning with runners on second and third. She now stands five hits away from tying Sue Lewis (1981-84) for the all-time career hits record (257). 

Wallace followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to score pinch runner Kristalyn Romulo for a 5-0 lead. 

The Gauchos scored their first run of the day in the bottom of the fifth inning off a solo home run to right field. Staci Chambers (5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 (E)R, 3 BB, 5 K) ended her outing in the sixth inning after walking a run in. Rainey entered in relief for Chambers, getting out of the inning with a swinging strikeout. 

Lopez found the game's final run in the top of the seventh, scoring Sarah Perez on a sacrifice fly to right field. The Titans secured their 6-2 victory over the Gauchos in the seventh inning as Rainey did not allow a hit. 

The Titans and Gauchos conclude their series in Santa Barbara on Sunday, starting at 1:00 p.m.
