Titans Fall to No. 22 Oregon in Close Fought Battle

An eight-run top of the seventh breaks a 4-4 tie, issuing the Titans a midweek loss

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team fell to No. 22 University of Oregon, 12-4, in a mid-week battle after entering the seventh inning tied at 4-4. The Titans stand 19-12 on the season before returning to Big West play on Thursday.

Bailey Wallace (3-for-4, RBI, R) helped the Titans jump on the board early against the ranked Ducks with an RBI single to left field.

Megan Delgadillo (2-for-3, R, SB) scored on the play after she reached on a base hit. Delgadillo stole her 23rd stolen base of the season and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher.

The Titans got a 2-0 lead over the Ducks before the first inning was over as Ava Arve reached on a fielding error by Oregon's third baseman to score Wallace.

The Ducks responded with three runs in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead over the Titans on a home run, error and run.

Haley Rainey relieved Staci Chambers (1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), who started the game by striking out the side, in the midst of the Ducks tying and taking the lead. Rainey (2.2 IP) allowed three hits, one run, one walk and picked up three strikeouts of her own.

Delgadillo led off the third inning with a single through the left side and went on to end her perfect run on the base path after getting caught trying to steal her 24th bag of the season. The program and Big West's all-time stolen base leader is 23-for-24 on stolen base attempts this season.

Jessi Alcala smashed a ball over the left-center wall in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3 with two outs.

The Ducks responded once again with a double down the right field line to take a 4-3 lead over the Titans in the fourth inning, but the Titans called tie game one more time in the bottom of the inning. Colby McClinton, who singled through the left side and stole second base, advanced and scored on a throw from the catcher.

Leanna Garcia got the nod in the circle for the fifth inning. She pitched one inning, allowing just one hit and two walks. She struck out one batter. Trisha McCleskey ultimately earned the loss for the Titans after the Ducks ran away with the game in the top of the seventh inning.

McCleskey allowed five runs off two hits and two walks with no outs. Ashleigh Dendas and Hailey Harris also made appearances out of the bullpen before the Titans fell 12-4 to the ranked Oregon Ducks.
