Softball Sweeps Cal State Bakersfield

Bailey Wallace (2-for-2, 2 RBI, R) and Haley Rainey power Titans to win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team completed their first series sweep of the season following their 6-0 victory over the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners on Sunday. The Titans stand 19-11 on the season and improve to 5-1 in Big West play.

Megan Delgadillo stole her 22nd base of the season after leading off the game with a bunt. Delgadillo is 22-for-22 on stolen base attempts and holds the Titans program and The Big West conference records for career stolen bases (128 SB). Her season high came in 2022 when she stole 50 bags and broke the individual season Titan stolen base record.

The Titans jumped on the board in the third inning after capitalizing on an error by Cal State Bakersfield's first baseman. Sarah Perez reached on the error while Bailey Wallace (single) scored.

Ava Arce sent a ball into left field to score Jessi Alcala for a 2-0 lead before Perez was called out at home on the throw.

Hannah Becerra (single), Colby McClinton (single, advanced) and Verhoef (single, bunt) loaded the bases for Megan Delgadillo with one out in the top of the fourth. Delgadillo earned her seventh RBI of the season as she drove in Becerra on a ground out to shortstop for a 3-0 lead over the 'Runners.

Wallace collected two RBI herself a batter later, driving in McClinton and Verhoef on a single that shot through the pitcher's legs and into center field.

After a short rain delay prolonged the start of the sixth inning, Peyton Toto reached on a defensive error in the top of the seventh that scored Savannah Favre. The Titans took a 6-0 lead over the 'Runners who had one more chance to get a run on the board.

Haley Rainey improved to 9-4 on the season after allowing just two hits and no runs through six innings. The Big West ERA leader (0.32) struck out five of the 22 batters faced while allowing just three hits.

Leanna Garcia entered to close the game for Rainey, retiring the side with a fly out and a pair of ground outs.

The Titans return home to Anderson Family Field for a midweek game on Tuesday against the University of Oregon at 6:00 p.m. They will remain in Fullerton for the weekend as the host UC Riverside for their home conference opener on Friday and Saturday.
