Titans Win Both Games of Doubleheader at Cal State Bakersfield

Toto hits a grand slam, Becerra hits 35th HR, Delgadillo sets new program record

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton Titans Softball defeated Cal State Bakersfield 9-1 and 6-2 in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Titans improve to 18-11 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. They are also 5-1 when wearing their white jerseys. 

Haley Rainey improved to 8-4 on the season and stands 2-0 in conference play. Rainey leads The Big West with a 1.84 ERA overall and 0.44 ERA in the conference. She holds the conference's lowest overall opposing batting average (.201). Chambers also improved to 8-4 on the season and holds a 2.36 ERA.

The Titans and Roadrunners remained scoreless through the first four innings of the game. The Titans out-hit the 'Runners 4-2 through this stretch, leaving five on base. 

The Big West Field Player of the Week, Jessi Alcala (2-for-3, RBI, R), started the scoring in the fifth inning, driving in Kate Verhoef (single). 

Ava Arce extended Fullerton's lead to 3-0 after sending a ball into right-center field to score Anaiya Mitchell and Alcala. 



The bats remained hot for the Titans as Peyton Toto continued the rally with a base hit that scored Arce and forced the Roadrunners to make a call to the bullpen. 

Up 4-0 with two outs on the board, Colby McClinton barreled a ball over the left-center wall, scoring Becerra (walk) and Toto. McClinton entered the game batting .188 before hitting her first career home run as a Titan. 



Candace Yingling put the Titans into run-rule territory with a single up the middle, scoring Savannah Favre for an 8-0 lead in the sixth inning. 

Trisha McCleskey (3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K) entered in relief for Rainey (4.0 IP, 2 H, 3K) in the fifth inning but gave up a run in the bottom of the sixth to force the game to play into the scheduled seventh inning. 

Megan Delgadillo set a new program record for the most individual career runs scored by a Titan (151) in the top of the seventh inning as she was the ninth Titan to cross home in their 9-1 victory over the Roadrunners. 



Delgadillo surpassed assistant coach Gina Oaks Garcia (150), who has held the record since 2003.

The Titans beat the Roadrunners to the board in the second inning as Verhoef singled to the shortstop and scored McClinton (walk). 

Cal State Bakersfield tied the game in the bottom of the third inning and took their first lead of the day on a double and an unassisted RBI groundout to second base. 

Becerra wasted no time tying the game at 2-2 in the fourth with her fifth home run of the season. Hitting her 35th career home run, Becerra passed Daisy Munoz (34) for the third most career home runs as a Titan. 



The Titans loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning for Toto, who launched a ball to left field for her second home run of the season and first grand slam of her college career. 



Staci Chambers and the Titans kept the Roadrunners to nine hits and two runs for the remainder of the game to secure their 18th win of the season. Chambers pitched her fourth complete game of the season, striking out seven 'Runners. 

The Titans and 'Runners wrap up the series on Sunday in Bakersfield at 11:00 a.m. The game time is subject to change due to rain in Sunday's forecast.
