SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton outdoor track and field posted multiple podium finishes Friday at the Mangrum Invitational and day one of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
The Titans featured several distance runners at the Mangrum Invitational at CSU San Marcos Friday, with Jonathan Pfeiffer leading the way. Pfeiffer broke the school record in the men's 800m, running a 1:50.66 to win the event. His mark is top-10 in program history.
Mia Bergman won the women's 1500m after clocking a 4:27.18, the fourth fastest time in program history. Destiny Lopez claimed bronze in the women's 5000m, posting a 17:59.85. Jicel Fernandez led the Titans in the women's 3000m steeplechase, finishing sixth with an 11:17.59. Olivia Ruiz finished ninth in the women's 800m with a 2:14.34.
In the men's 1500m, Nathaniel Avila led the way for Fullerton with a sixth-place finish after clocking a 3:51.65. Marco Perez followed in eighth with a 3:52.27. Jaden Wiley finished fourth in the men's 5000m with a 14:43.73 while JT McCoy followed in fifth with a 14:43.78.
The Titans also had several throwers compete on day one of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at UCLA Friday, including Hawkin Miller. Miller finished third in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 51.57m. Justice Mephors followed in fourth with a 49.67m throw.
Natalia Delgado, Teresa Chang and Jocelyn Alexander finished in the top-10 of the women's hammer throw. Delgado threw a 48.51m, Chang a 48.16m and Alexander a 42.94m. Elizabeth Chidester placed fifth in the women's javelin with a 33.08m while Catherine Dahlberg finished sixth with a 31.00m.
Fullerton is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 23, for the second and final day of the Johnson/Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
