DAVIS, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton Titans Softball split the doubleheader against UC Davis in a 5-3 win and 4-1 loss on Friday. The Titans are 15-11 overall and 1-1 in Big West conference play.Â
Haley Rainey pitched her fifth complete game of the season and is 4-1 when going the full length. She improved to 6-4 on the season and stands 1-0 in conference play. Rainey leads The Big West with a 2.06 ERA and shares the lead with teammate
Staci Chambers for the lowest opposing batting average of .210.Â
Cal State Fullerton 5, UC Davis 3
Kika Ramirez gave the Titans an early 2-0 lead over the Aggies in the first inning with a double to left center.
Bailey Wallace (single) and
Jessi Alcala (double) crossed home safely on Ramirez's two-run double.Â
With two outs on the board,
Hannah Becerra extended Fullerton's lead 3-0 with a single to center field, scoring
Sarah Perez who entered to run for Ramirez.Â
Candance Yingling entered the game to pinch hit for
Kate Verhoef in the top fo the fourth inning with Becerra on second base. Yingling knocked a ball over the pitcher that fell into second base and got redirected, earning herself an RBI.Â
UC Davis brought in their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double. The Titans quickly regained a four-run lead in the fifth inning as
Ava Arce flew out to left field to score
Kristalyn Romulo. After six innings, the Titans held a 5-1 lead over the Aggies.Â
Haley Rainey (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) was relieved by LHP
Leanna Garcia in the seventh inning, but quickly reentered the game to tackle a bases loaded situation with no outs. The Aggies worked the count against Rainey to walk in a run and scored one last run on a ground out before Rainey secured a 5-3 victory for the Titans.Â
UC Davis 4, Cal State Fullerton 1
UC Davis jumped on the board in the first inning with a base hit into center field. The Aggies added two runs in the second inning off a double and single, and scored on a ball hit to
Jazmin Williams at second base in the third for a 4-0 lead over the Titans.
Sarah Perez hit a ball into left field in the fourth inning to snap an 18-game streak without a hit.Â
Jessi Alcala found the first and only Titan run of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI single through the left side that scored
Megan Delgadillo.Â
Chambers (7-4) pitched all six innings for the Titans, allowing four runs off eight hits. She did not walk a single Aggie and struck out five. Chambers leads The Big West in strike outs (61).Â
The Titans look to win the series against UC Davis at La Rue Field on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
