Softball Defeats Yale in Tournament Season Finale

Haley Rainey earns collegiate strikeout No. 300 in complete game shutout

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team defeated Yale in a 1-0 shutout on Sunday to conclude their 2024 tournament season. The Titans improved to 14-10 on the season and 3-1 at the tournament. 

Haley Rainey pitched both her fifth complete game and win of the season in Sunday's victory over the Bulldogs. Through seven innings, Rainey (2.79 ERA) allowed two hits, one walk and struck out seven batters. Between her time with Idaho State University and Cal State Fullerton, Rainey recorded and surpassed 300 collegiate strikeouts in Sunday's matchup. 



The Titans scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as Megan Delgadillo (double, SB) capitalized on a throwing error by Yale's second baseman. Delgadillo batted .273 over the weekend with two extra base hits, four runs and one run batted in. 

Fullerton Softball begins conference play on the road at UC Davis for a three game series starting on Friday, March 15. They play a doubleheader on Friday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. before finishing the weekend on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
