Rainey and Garcia pitch the Titans to a shutout victory

BOX SCORE

FULLERTON, Calif.
- The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball team defeated the Colorado State Rams 5-0 on Friday night in their first game of the Easton Classic. The Titans start the season 1-0.

The bats were blazing for the Titans on Opening Day, out-hitting Colorado State 12-5. Haley Rainey (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K) and Leanna Garcia (2.0 IP, 2 H, 3K) worked together to silence Colorado State's chances at making a comeback at any point in the game. Rainey (1-0) and Garcia (1 SV) both start the season with a perfect 0.00 ERA.

Senior outfielder Megan Delgadillo made her debut after missing the majority of the 2023 season with a torn ACL. Delgadillo (4-for-4, 1 RBI, SB) led off for the Titans, earning her first stolen base of the season after reaching on a hit to second base. Delgadillo scored on a wild pitch to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead over the Rams.

A shot up the middle by Bailey Wallace drove in Kris Romulo who was in to pinch run for Kika Ramirez, giving the Titans a 2-0 edge over Colorado State in the bottom of the second.

Kika Ramirez went 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI single to right field in the bottom of the third inning to drove in Hannah Becerra, who led off the inning with a single to right field herself.

Offensive production grew silent for both sides after the third inning until Delgadillo made contact with a ball that dropped in front of Colorado State's right fielder in the bottom of the sixth. Wallace was able to capitalize on the hit and add the fourth Titan run onto the scoreboard.

A sacrifice fly by freshman infielder Sarah Perez scored Kate Verhoef for the fifth and final run of the game. After a successful first game back on the field, the Titans begin their road to the postseason slashing .444/.429/.481.

The Titans will play a doubleheader against UIC and Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
