Haley Rainey on Saturday. The Titans stand 3-0 on the season with one day of the Easton Classic remaining.Â
Cal State Fullerton 8, UIC 2Â
Trailing 2-0 after the top of the first,
Jessi Alcala (sacrifice bunt),
Hannah Becerra (single) and
Peyton Toto (single) answered with three runs to take a 3-2 lead.Â
Scoring fell silent from both dugouts through the second and third inning before the Titans rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Base hits by
Ava Arce and Alcala scored two, before
Kika Ramirez drove in a run after getting hit by pitch. Becerra sent a ball through the left side of the infield to score two more runs.Â
LHP
Staci Chambers (4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 (E)R, 3 K),
Ashleigh Dendas (2.0 IP, 1 BB, 3 K) and
Hailey Harris (1.0 IP, 2 K) held down the fort from the circle to secure the Titans 8-2 win over the Flames.Â
Cal State Fullerton 8, Pacific 0 (6 innings)
Senior third baseman
Hannah Becerra sent a ball over the right field wall with bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the first inning to give the Titans an early 4-0 lead over the Tigers. This grand slam scored
Megan Delgadillo,
Sarah Perez and
Kika Ramirez.Â
Â
Becerra is the first Titan to hit a grand slam since teammate
Kika Ramirez against Northwestern on Feb. 26, 2022.Â
Peyton Toto drove pinch runner
Kristalyn Romulo home in the third inning off a base hit to left field to give the Titans a 5-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by
Kate Verhoef recorded the second out of the third inning, extending Fullerton's lead 6-0.Â
A ball sent to the left foul poll banked off the wall for an RBI double for
Sophia Guevara in the bottom of the fifth was not enough to force a mercy ruling after five. A leadoff single through the middle by
Savannah Favre gave her a successful stolen base opportunity. With a runner in scoring position, Toto knocked a base hit to center field to advance Favre to third, where she would then score the game-winning run off an RBI single by freshman
Jazmin Williams.Â
Not only did the Titans give the fans a show with a grand slam and mercy rule victory, starting pitcher
Haley Rainey (6.0 IP, 3 K) pitched the 10th perfect game in program history.Â
Â
The last time the Titans pitched a perfect game was in 2006 as Marissa Marzan led the Titans to a six-inning 10-0 victory over Pacific on April 23, 2006. Rainey became the 59th pitcher to fan a no-hitter in program history.Â
The Titans will conclude the Easton Classic on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.Â
