Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team were defeated by UC Davis, 61-48, Thursday night at Titan Gym. With this loss the Titans overall record moves to 7-14 and their conference record moves to 3-8.
This is the second time the two teams have met this season, with the Aggies winning their first meeting, 60-55, Jan. 18 at UC Davis.
Senior Ashlee Lewis led the Titans with a team-high 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. This was Lewis's fifth double-double of the season and fourth in the last five games.
Following Lewis were teammates Hope Hassmann and Demonnie Lagway who each contributed nine points a piece. Hassmann also forced a career-high four steals
The two teams started the match trading points before a jumper by Gabi Vidmar and a layup by Hope Hassmann gave the Titans their first lead of the game, 6-5.
This kicked off a 10-0 scoring run for the Titans that helped them gain momentum early. The Aggies attempted to cut their deficit but a
Eva Levingston successful free-throw helped the Titans take a 12-7 lead into the second quarter.
Entering the second quarter, the Aggies were able to strike first with two successful free-throws. CSUF then responded with back-to-back successful layups by Hassmann and Levingston to extend their lead, 16-9.
However the Aggies would bounce back, putting together a 13-2 scoring run to retake the lead 22-18. With less than two minutes remaining in the half, the Titans regained composure after Demonnie Lagway produced a successful layup that was followed by center Ashlee Lewis muscling through an Aggie defender for another layup to tie the game 22-22.
Capping off the end of the half, CSUF forward Allysan Tse successfully converted two free-throws to give the Titans the lead before half, 24-22.
Returning from the half, the Aggies took control of the match immediately. Kicking off the quarter with a 8-0 scoring run, UC Davis was able to retake the lead, 30-24. The Titans spent the remainder of the quarter trailing, but back-to-back layups by Lewis and Lagway helped them cut their deficit to 36-30 just before the fourth quarter.
The Aggies carried their momentum into the fourth quarter where they continued to extend their lead. However the Titans wouldn't allow the game to get unreachable yet, with a 3-pointer by Hassmann and a jumper by Lewis cutting the Aggies lead to 46-39.
CSUF followed this with a layup and two successful free-throws by Emily Strachan to cut the deficit to three, 46-43. Despite this the Aggies ultimately held on for the win, 61-48.
The Titans will look to shake off their 4-game losing streak and will stay at home on Saturday to host CSU Bakersfield. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm
