DAVIS, Calif. — Despite a career-high 19 points from John Mikey Square, Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell 71-58 at UC Davis Thursday night. The result drops the Titans to 11-12 overall and 4-7 in Big West play.Â
Square reached a game-high tying 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor, adding 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. He also tallied three rebounds, a pair of steals and a block on the night. Max Jones added eight points and two steals while DJ Brewton had six points and six boards.Â
Fullerton fell behind early, 15-5, before Jones hit a three from the right wing. Jones later found Brewton for a fast-break layup and Square scored in the paint to make it 21-14 for UC Davis. Square added a three-point play and a put-back lay-in just before the half, scoring 10 of his 19 points in the first period as the Titans trailed 36-25 at the break.
Square hit a pair of free throws and a baseline jumper before another Brewton basket cut Fullerton's deficit, 40-31, early in the second half. But the Aggies scored the next 10 to take a 50-31 advantage.Â
Tory San Antonio and Jones traded triples before Vincent Lee and Antwan Robinson scored baskets to make it 56-41 midway through the second half. UC Davis pushed its lead to 22, 65-43, with 8:00 left.
