Titans Post Dominant Win at CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team picked up their second win in three games after defeating the CSUN Matadors 75-57 on the road on Saturday afternoon at the Premier America Credit Union Arena.

The Titans improved to 9-17 overall and 5-11 in Big West play.

The Titans spread the attack all over against the Matadors as eight figures had at least multiple field goals.  Ashlee Lewis was nearly unstoppable at the post as she scored 21 points and hauled down 8 rebounds. Fujika Nimmo came off the bench and scored 13 points including three 3-pointers.  Hope Hassmann scored 12 points and had six assists.

The Titans shot 43.9% from the floor and held CSUN to 36.2% shooting.  The Titans dominated the boards after hauling down 45 rebounds and holding CSUN to just 28 rebounds. The Titans had 15 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second chance points.

The Titans and Matadors traded baskets early to start the game until a Fujika Nimmo step back 3-pointer with 4:56 in the first put the Titans ahead 7-6.

CSUN tied the game with a free throw at 7-7 before the Titans went on a 12-2 run to close out the quarter.  Ashlee Lewis had 9 points in the first quarter alone as the Titans led 19-to-9 after the first quarter.

The Titans continued their torrid first half in the second quarter after outscoring the Matadors 26-to-17. The Titans led 33-to-21 as the teams headed to their benches at the media timeout with 4:32 left in the period.  The Titans went on 12-2 run out of the media timeout led by a Demonnie Lagway steal-and-a-basket and Kathryn Neff nailed two-three pointers.

The Titans didn't score in the final two minutes of the quarter but held CSUN to just three pointers in the final two minutes of the first half to take a 45-26 lead into halftime.  The 45 points scored in the first half was the most the Titans have scored all season.

After a quiet first half, Hope Hassmann scored the first seven points for the Titans in the third quarter.

The Titans had their longest lead of the night at 61-32 with 2:51 left in the third quarter after a Nimmo 3-pointer and Vidmar layup.

The Titans led 65-40 heading into the final quarter.  The Matadors saved their best basketball for the final quarter as they outscored the Titans 17-to-10 and forced the Titans to play their sloppiest basketball of the game.  However, the Titans were able to see out the game and secure the 18-point win over the Matadors.

The Titans have moved into a tie with Cal State Bakersfield in the 9th place spot in the standings.  However, the Roadrunners hold the advantage over the Titans after winning both games against the Titans. The Titans will be back at home on Thursday to take on Long Beach State on February 29th. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Titan Gym.
